Re: Soil Standards

I'm not aware of any standard, but when I needed to mix radionuclides with
soil for my thesis work, I used a ball mill, to prepare the samples. To
verify homogeneous mixing, I prepared some samples using Tc-99m, and counted
aliquots of them. It was messy, but I did this on a Friday, and took the
weekend off!

Dear Radsafers,

Does anyone know if NIST has a procedure for preparing soil standards
where liquid sources containing one known nuclide are mixed with soil,
thereby, obtaining a homogeneous mixture. What is the reference for this
procedure and/or a NIST contact?

Send replies to: johnrz@umich.edu

Thanks!!
