Age of Design of Nuc. Pwr. Plts.
For general info:
One, Chernobyl and U. S. plants are apples and oranges. Two, there are
new, standardized designs for new Power reactors which have been
approved, but the only customers so far have been the Japanese. The
economic and regulatory climate in the U. S. is not stable enough for U.
S. utilities to invest in them YET, even though they are U.S. designs and
America NEEDS the capacity. As far as the safety issue is concerned, I
challenge you to find many industries in this country which have as
satisfactory a safety record.
