Declared Pregnant Worker Waivers

ComEd does not provide for a "waiver" for female workers. Females
are, however, required to sign a statement acknowledging receipt of
annual 10 CFR 19 related training/retraining. This training includes
a description of the prenatal program. The acknowledgment includes a
statement that basically says that the woman understands that a
program is administered which permits her to declare her pregnancy
whereby steps would be taken to maintain the dose to the embryo/fetus
within limits ... and that she understands that she is responsible for
promptly notifying ComEd should she choose to be covered under the
     provisions of that program.

Should a female choose to declare, then a declaration form is
completed. This form contains a section at the bottom (below a dotted
line) where she can come back and "undeclare" should she decide to do
so for any reason. She is encouraged to come back and undeclare at
the point she is no longer pregnant. If she does not come back to
"undeclare" after 10 months from the initial date of declaration, the
declaration of pregnancy will automatically expire. Words regarding
the 10 month auto-expiration are contained on the declaration form
itself that the woman signs so that she knows this in advance. This
last provision was implemented primarily because we have transient
workers (contractors) who work at our faciltites who may not tell us
when they leave due to the impending birth and may never return to the
     facility.
