RE: Rad Content in Oil
Refined or unrefined? Seriously, in a quart (should I say liter?) of crude
or refined oil, you would have difficulty measuring any radiation. But in
the pipes (tubular goods) through which crude flows, barium and radium
sulfate are the principal scales which form and which eventually have to be
removed to restore adequate flow if the pipe is to continue to be useful.
These scales are considered to contain naturally-occurring radioactive
material (NORM) and have become the latest "hot topic" in the states'
regulatory industry, I suppose. But don't even ask the NRC about
it......<GRIN>.

Does anyone know the amount of rad content normally measured in petroleum
oils?
