Film Badging...

Hello,

I am working as a computer specialist in a radiology department
in a (I better not say). Since my academic background is physics, I was
recently given the job of film badging most of the hospital. It seems
there is some old medical center policy that has the Chief of
Radiology in charge of film badging all the hospital's users of
diagnostic radiology equipment and the RSO is in charge of badging the
users of licensed materials. This is strange because the department
doesn't have a full-time physicist, nor a radiation safety officer.
Over the years, the number of users of diagnostic radiology equipment has
grown to the security staff using fluoro for packages, plumbers, etc...

Before I got the job there was clerk in charge of collecting and issuing
the badges. ALARA warnings were sent to the users, but no training nor
follow-ups were done to ensure the users were doing everything they could
to reduce their exposures. Of course I am changing that now, but it
takes a lot of my time to find out what users are doing, making sure they
have the right badge types, double badging where appropriate, etc...

I know the NRC annually inspects the licensed stuff and
users, but who checks up on users of diagnostic radiology equipment?

Since it looks like the RSO has no intention of taking over this task
(215 users) I guess I will need to get the regulations. Can someone tell
me which regulations I need (remembering I have a full-time job doing my
computer work and can't read all the books, just those pertinent to my
problem).

Regards,
