EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY FOR COLORADO RESIDENTS AT COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY
TITLE: Alternate Radiation Safety Officer (Environmental Protection
Specialist II)
SALARY: $3735 to $5005 per month
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Two years professional health physics experience,
preferably at an academic and/or research institution AND a Bachelor's
degree in Health Physics or closely related field. Substitution:
M.S./Ph.D. in Health Physics may substitute for one year of the
professional experience. Work experience deemed equivalent to the
knowledge and skills gained in the B.S. in Health Physics may substitute
for the degree. Additional Requirements: [1] Possess or be qualifiied to
obtain 40 hour Haardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Training
[2] Colorado Commercial Driver's License [3] Eligibility for professional
certification by the American Board of Health Physics within five years
[4] Computer experience, preferably with Microsoft Access [5] Ability to
meet physical demands including: routine lifting of 50+ lbs while wearing
protective equipment [6] Willingness to work an on call schedule when
necessitated. HIGHLY DESIREABLE: M.S. or Ph.D. in Health Physics.
Experience directing the work of technicians.
Background Security Clearance and Fingerprinting may be required.
DUTIES: Position is assigned to Environmental Health Services to minitor
the presence and use of ionizing and nonionizing radiation under state
and federal regulations. Assist to develop and direct a safety program
focussed on ionizing radiation as used in research and teaching. Train
generators, collect waste, supervise consolidation of waste; schedule
waste shipments. Direct a plan to gather data and samples to ensure
compliance of researchers with university and state regulations. Compile
data, interpret and report. Manage program to maintain calibration of all
equipment. Train users on proper use of radiation detectors. Consult with
university staff and general public on matters related to radiation
safety. Perform related duties as assigned and/or required.
