Re: "De minimis" skin contamination

I'm not aware of any de minimus level requirement for calculating skin dose
due to contamination. However, for the nuclear power industry INPO guidelines
(INPO 91-014, rev.1, Section III.C.2.a.3) specify that:

"A calculation of skin dose should be performed if a worker may have received
significant dose from skin contamination (e.g., greater than 100 mrem)"

Here is a question that may have been posted before. In any case, I
shall apreciate hearing from Radsafers who have an answer. It will
help a colleague who is not yet "wired".

Is there is de minimis level of skin contamination above which it is
obligatory to calculate radiation doses, and below which such
calculation can be omitted? Current regulations require that one sum
doses from all sources, but it would seem logical to ignore very tiny
contributions.

This sems a ripe topic for public discussion, but replies can be
directed to me personally. If such messages arrive, and the
information is interesting enough, I shall rebroadcast it some time in
the future. Thanks in advance.
