Re: NRC Security Workshop

Just a comment concerning the Security Workshop. The comment made by Mr.
Sinisterra of my group ( at my request) was not intended to discredit the
efforts of those who put together the workshop. This type of discourse is
necessary in order to adequately convey the problems involved with the
"compliance" side of the regs. to those writing and interpeting them during
inspections. Rather, the intent was to inform those radsafers out there who may
not be aware of just how NRC is currently looking at the security issue.
Several institutions have been cited for having lab doors open and unattended,
irregardless of the amount of activity present in the lab. The main point being
to address this issue now rather than wait for a change in NRC policy in the
future. And the statement "...there is no amount of radioactivity which must
not be secured" is still valid.
