RE: MRC Sealed Sources

Paul,

Normally, Special Form Certificates (IAEA Certificate of Competent
Authority, Special Form Radioactive Material Encapsulation) are obtained
from the Competent Authority in the country of manufacture. In this case it
is the U.S. D.O.T. (Department of Transportation). The contact information
for the DOT to obtain Special Form Certficates is:

U.S. Department of Transportation
Research and Special Programs Administration
Office of Hazardous Materials Transportation
Richard Boyle-Chief, rm 8430
Radioactive Materials Branch, DHM-23
400 Seventh Street, S.W.
Washington, D.C. 20590

Radioactive Materials Branch telephone number: 202-366-4545

The Sealed Source and Device Registration is a different animal and as
others have said, it is administered by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory
Commission. Specifically:

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission
Sealed Source Safety Section
Steven L. Baggett, Section Chief
Division of Industrial and Medical Nuclear Safety
Washington, D.C. 20555

In many cases a licensee can not add a particular source model to their
license unless a registration number/safety evaluation exists for that model.

The SSD registry shows MRC 2700 Series has registration number: NR-0882-S-802-S

The MRC-2406 only shows up as a source within a Army Dual Energy Gamma Ray Gauge
The device registration is: NR-0154-D-101-S

Hope this helps.
