The Ernest Orlando Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley
Lab) has an opening for a Radiological Control Manager in its
Environment, Health and Safety Division.
The successful candidate will manage the Radiation Protection Program
(RPP) for both ionizing and non-ionizing radiation in promoting both
effective compliance with applicable DOE orders/rules and a
radiologically safe working environment. Responsibilities will
include developing self assessment and internal audits, supervising
RPP staff, interacting with and providing technical problem solving
and regulatory guidance to Berkeley Lab managers & principal
investigators, and being the liaison with regulatory agencies to
ensure EH&S radiation safety objectives are integrated into research
operations and compliance activities. Candidates should have a
graduate degree in a scientific, engineering or health physics
discipline and, preferably, a certification by a professional
organization such as CHP. Candidates without these qualifications but
with proven performance in a Radiological Control Manager position
will be considered. The ideal candidate would possess verifiable
program management skills, outstanding leadership ability, and expert
knowledge of DOE radiation protection standards, codes and
regulations. Must also display demonstrated qualities necessary to
manage and lead a diverse group of health physics professionals,
strong technical background in health physics principles and
practices, experience in leading an interdisciplinary EH&S team, and
knowledge of project management, planning, budgeting and human
resources management. Expert knowledge of non-DOE radiation
protection standards, codes and regulations such as NRC, NRC Agreement
and state licenses a plus.
