Russian Mars probe

Hi All,

In case you get questions on this, here is some info I have picked up on
the Mars probe (off the news agencies.. so...):

``The news is that it came down, 31 degrees south and 96.3
degrees west,'' said EMA spokesman Philip Stenchion.
``It's actually off South America, near Easter Island,'' he
added.

The area between Easter Island and the Chilean mainland
where the satellite is reported to have fallen is up to 6,000
yards deep, according to maps of the area.

The landing vehicles [2] each carried two tiny plutonium
batteries about the size of 35mm film canisters containing a
total of seven ounces of the radioactive material. Aircraft with
sensoring equipment were expected to scan the reentry area for signs of
radioactivity, U.S. officials said.
