Re: E-Link: Major Breakthrough in Hazardous Cleanup Process
Plasma arc technologies have been available for quite some time. They
have their roots in military technology .... more recently Russian
companies have come on the scene with their own plasma devices for medical
(and other) wastes. There is quite a body of literature describing
available plasma technologies, which truly do look promising.
Check out some environmental journals (peer-reviewed and commercial ...
e.g., Environmental Protection, Pollution Engineering, Solid Waste).
There is a group at Argonne National Lab which has a searchable database
of advanced technologies ... let me know if you're interested.
Apropos radwaste, though, its hard to believe some of the claims that are
being made. For example, in contrast with complex organic molecules which
are reduced to their elemental components by plasma arcs, how does one
expect to "remove the rad from radwaste"?? Even in elemental form we
still have the rad problem(s). As you correctly stated, it does seem too
good to be true.
