SAGAN'S BOOK, PALE BLUE DOT

Regarding the fragility of planet earth as alluded to in several
recent RadSafe posts, the subscribers might be interested in checking
out Carl Sagan's book, Pale Blue Dot. Sagan begins by dispelling old
myths centered on the anthropic principle and provides an amazing set
of photos of earth from a different perspective. One such photo shows
the earth and its very thin atmosphere as seen by a german astronaut
aboard the shuttle. The astronaut's realization that the earth's
protective layer is so thin ought to be a wake up call for all those
really concerned about the global impact of current energy policies.
     Happy reading.
