Re: PWR Core Barrel Dose Rates? -Reply

The core barrel is a part of the lower internals assembly
inside the reactor vessel of a PWR. It is a cylindrical shell to
which the main flange is affixed at the top and the core
support at the bottom. The coolant outlet nozzles penetrate
the barrel shell in the upper region. The core barrel is
equipped to accomodate the fuel assemblies which are
arranged in a roughly circular cross-sectional pattern.

Periodically, this component must be removed (pulled) from
the reactor vessel to accomodate inspections.

Excuse my ignorance but could someone describe what is
meant by a 'core barrel pull'?
