Argentina - Waste Wars!

This article was received from Reuters News Service. Is Argentina
ready for another war, as they fought against Britain..
--------------------
BUENOS AIRES - Argentina Wednesday urged Japan, France and
Britain to stop ferrying nuclear waste around the world and said it
would take unspecified steps if ships bearing such cargo passed near
its coast. ``Bearing in mind the excellent ties we have with the
governments of Japan, France and Britain, we urge them not to
repeat this kind of shipment in the future,'' the Foreign
Ministry said in a statement.
Argentina, Chile and Brazil all complained when the
radioactive material passed close to their shores last March.
Buenos Aires warned Wednesday it would take ``steps
recognized by the international law to preserve the maritime
ecosystem and the health of its inhabitants.''
It did not specify what measures it would take and no one
was immediately available for comment at the Foreign Ministry.
The statement came two days after a British-registered ship
left the French harbor of Cherbourg with waste from fuel that
was recycled in France for Japan.
But unlike the incident last March, when the ship passed by
Argentina's southernmost tip, the freighter was reported to be
taking a different route, from France to the southern tip of
South Africa and east to Japan.
The 5,000-ton ship carrying 20 metric tons of nuclear waste
was expected to arrive in Japan in March. A total of 30
shipments of this kind have been scheduled.
