Maine Yankee names new VP
This article is a continuation of the Maine Yankee saga. Of note in
the article is that Sellman, the newly named chief nuclear officer
comes from Entergy's Waterford nuclear plant, which had significant
equipment problems in the past year, and, received much NRC scrutiny.
The question is, did they fix the problems under Sellman's watch, did
they put into place processes to prevent recurrence .. or is this
just another corporate shuffle that leads to more problems for "both"
plants.

PORTLAND, Maine (Reuter) - A veteran Entergy Corp. plant
manager, Michael Sellman, will become chief nuclear officer of
the trouble Maine Yankee nuclear plant, the two companies
announced Friday.
Sellman's appointment comes just over two weeks after Maine
Yankee signed a memorandum of understanding for Entergy -- a New
Orleans-based utility holding company -- to provide management
services at the Wiscasset, Maine, facility.
Maine Yankee has been shut down repeatedly in the past two
years for problems ranging from steampipe leaks to improperly
removed electrical cables. It has been off-line since Dec. 6 and is
currently inspecting for leaking fuel rods.
Anti-nuclear activists have launched a referendum drive to
force Maine Yankee's shutdown. Four previous efforts have
failed, but this campaign's organizors say the plant's problems
has generated public safety concern.
Sellman will replace Charles Frizzle who was forced out as
Maine Yankee's president in December. The plant's directors said at
the time Maine Yankee needed to regain the trust of the public and
regulators.
Sellman is vice president for operations of Entergy's
Waterford 3 nuclear unit, which like Maine Yankee was criticized last
year by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for equipment repair
problems.
