RE: Request for Information

Hi all,

I could mention another source of contamination of metal from sources used to determine the integrity of furnace's walls. Usually these are Co-60 sources of some Curies, mounted in the refractory internal wall of the furnace in different critical locations and monitored with a simple GM-counter system posted outside the furnace. When the source is not in place, means that the refractory wall must be rebuilt. These sources are melting in the furnace's charge resulting in the contamination of iron. The contamination is small but can be measured with a normal survey meter when large pieces are involved.
