Re: Recordkeeping for Isotope Orders
I just went through an NRC inspection in August, 1996. We are a Broad
Scope Type A licensee who use radioactive material for pharmaceutical
research. The inspector gave me the following list of records that
he wanted to see:
Internal Audits
Surveys
Personnel Dosimetery
Incoming package surveys and records
Sealed source leak tests
Meter and LSC Calibrations
Waste Disposal Records
Materials Inventory
Effluent Monitoring
He did not ask for purchase reqs per se but he wanted to know what kind
of system we had in place to anticipate the arrival of packages the
contain radioactive material. To do that, we also approve purchase
reqs that contain radioactive material. My biggest problem with computer records is that when my system is upgraged the
previous files sometimes have to be reentered because of compatability
problems in old vs new versions of a program (eg Microsoft Access).
For this reason, I keep paper records. Luckily, inventory and survey
records have a life span (3 years if I remember correctly).
Hope this helps.
