This is not my field, but---
  I recall when my cousin was in high school, she suddenly started losing
her hair en masse.  It was "decided" it was due to stress, her diet not
having changed, physically fine, etc.  Wasn't there LONG discussion on this
net not long ago about stress induced problems after Chernobyl having
nothing directly to do with radiation??
