CAL RAD FORUM'S ANNUAL SPRING CONFERENCE





CAL RAD FORUM'S 15th ANNUAL SPRING CONFERENCE

Cal Rad Forum's 15th Annual Spring Conference will be held Thursday and
Friday, May 15-16, 1997 at the Mesa Pavilion Hilton, Mesa, Arizona (near
Phoenix).

The Conference will begin with a reception Thursday evening followed by an
optional dinner.

The Conference program on Friday will address institutional and political
issues affecting the development of the Southwestern Compact's proposed
regional Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Facility at Ward Valley,
California. There will also be technical presentations on management of
low-level waste.  Program speakers will include reprsentatives of state
government, organizations that use radioactive materials, the Southwestern
Compact Commission,  the disposal facility developer US Ecology, Inc., and
others. 

The Conference will be of interest to scientific researchers; representatives
of manufacturing, electric utility, and other industrial companies; state and
federal regulators and other governmental officials; radiological and
environmental health and safety specialists; and health care providers. 

On Thursday afternoon, Cal Rad, The Southwestern Compact Commission, and the
National Low-Level Waste Management Program will cosponsor a workshop on
media relations for radiation safety officers and others in medical,
university, and industrial settings who handle radioactive materials and want
to feel confident discussing waste management and disposal issues with the
media.

There is a registration fee for the conference, but there is no fee for the
Thursday afternoon media relations workshop. Nor is attendance at the
conference required to attend the workshop.
