CBT

For those who got our previous version, and other interested persons: [all
others please pardon this broadcast. Since I have distributed over 300
copies of this program this is the least painful way for me to get this
info out - but more painful for those uninterested.]

A revised version of the NIST CBT was uploaded today.
This reflects new procedures, editorial corrections, some
new material, and a version upgrade using MTB4.0. This version also
appears to be WIN95 friendly (but no guarentees!). It can be downloaded as
follows....

NIST Health Physics Training Program 4/1/97

There is a Windows installable version of the training program in the
RRDJAZZ.NIST.GOV directory. This may be accessed directly via FTP or from
http://rrdjazz.nist.gov/.

The six files named NBSR.* (.001 - .006), the SETUP.EXE, and the NBSR.ASU
can be downloaded and are installed by running SETUP from within WINDOWS
(select RUN, execute path\SETUP where path is the location of these
files). A program group and ICON are created as part of this procedure.
The uncompressed files will need about 14 MB of disk space.

Once uncompressed you can read the HP_READ.ME text file for more
information about this program (how it is written, its purpose, how it can
be changed, etc.). In particular, note that this program is designed to
run full screen in the 640x400 resolution using MS San Serif fonts. Other
screen settings may not properly display the training material, e.g., text
may be 'lost'. Also note that if printed quiz results are desired a set
of subdirectories must be manually created. A batch file is provided for
this purpose.

The download procedure can be accomplished by doing an anonymous FTP to
RRDJAZZ.NIST.GOV (use your address as the requested password), change
directory to TRAINING (i.e., CD TRAINING),
execute BIN,
execute MGET NBSR.* , etc.

This training program contains most of the information needed for a user
of the NBSR experiment facilities to work safety and to comply with the
NBSR procedural requirements. It typically takes 3 to 5 hours to
completely study this material. This program is being provided via
internet download so that users can study this material at their
convenience prior to visiting NIST. Additional training will still be
required upon coming to NIST (including taking the quiz that is in the
training program), but this added training should be much briefer if the
visitor demonstrates an adequate knowledge of the material in this
program.

Since this program is regularly updated, e.g., every 3-6 months, make
certain you have the latest version for review prior to your visit to
NIST.

Also note that visiting workers to the NBSR must coordinate their initial
training. See the note at
http://rrdjazz.nist.gov/access.html for more information or email your
request to C. Campbell (cheryl.campbell@nist.gov).
