I would suspect that the thyroid tissue eluded to found in other parts of the body is actually metastatic disease. patients who undergo thyroidectomy for carcinoma of the thyroid are in some cases given an ablation dose of I-131 to destroy any residual thyroid tissue in neck as well as any metastatic disease.
