Re: TMI Exposures

Yes, according to the 4th edition of Eisenbud's Environmental Radioactivity.
It was 57 kCi, and deciding what to do about it was the reason it took a year
for them to enter the reactor building.

He, and his co-author, Thomas Gesell, report that "... the highest doses were
received by a few people within a 2-mile radius who received doses between 20
and 70 mrem. Four different methods of estimating population dose gave
estimates ranging from 1600 to 5300 person-rem. The most credible estimate
was thought to be 3300 person-rem."

Most of this was external. As far as internal exposure: "The highest doses
would have been to a few people due to ingestion or inhalation of radioiodine
and would have been no more than about 5 mrem."
