Help for "ecological" studies ?

In today's NY Times there is an article, "Statistician Builds what
may be a Better Data Mousetrap", that discusses a new method of
looking at statistical data that seems to avoid "the ecological
fallacy". The method, developed by Dr Gary King of Harvard, "could
shed light on the radon question and other areas in epidemiology",
according to Dr. Sander Greenland of UCLA.

The article doesn't explain what the new method is, exactly, but I
guess it's something that is now in the statistical literature.
Maybe this will help bring together those who are intrigued by Dr.
Cohen's studies and those who won't even look at them because they
are "ecological".

The story in on the Times web site at: www.nytimes.com
It is in the Science section.
