Help for "ecological" studies ? (Wednesday version)
I sent this message yesterday but it was returned to me. Assuming it
didn't get through, I'm trying again.
In Tuesday's NY Times there is an article, "Statistician Builds what
may be a Better Data Mousetrap", that discusses a new method of
looking at statistical data that seems to avoid "the ecological
fallacy". The method, developed by Dr Gary King of Harvard, "could
shed light on the radon question and other areas in epidemiology",
according to Dr. Sander Greenland of UCLA.
The article doesn't explain what the new method is, exactly, but it
refers to Dr. King's book and his homepage through which sections of
the book are available Maybe use of this new methodology will help
bring together those who are intrigued by Dr. Cohen's studies and
those who won't even look at them because they are "ecological".
The story was on the Times web site at: www.nytimes.com
It was in the Science section.
