Soil Counting Efficiencies

Folks,
	We are searching for references regarding alpha and beta efficiencies when
counting raw, dried, non-compacted soil using a proportional counter to
yield gross alpha and beta activities.  Intuitively, we know that the
efficiencies will be low and quite variable, but we would like to be able
to quote some published work.  Any help will be appreciated.
