Upcoming ABC "It's your money" segment
It may be a doozy, and the "anti's" may have a field day. Should be
interesting tho, however breif it may be!
FYI:
ABC News spent three days at Yucca Mountain last week in preparation for an
"It?s Your Money" segment on the ABC Nightly News television program with
Peter Jennings. The segment is scheduled to be broadcast on Wednesday,
July 16.
ABC will most likely emphasize that the government has spent billions of
dollars without producing either storage or permanent repository facilities
for nuclear wastes since the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982 initiated the
program. DOE made program manager Lake Barrett and Yucca Mountain Project
official Russ Dyer available for on-camera interviews. ABC filmed at Yucca
Mountain and at DOE offices in Las Vegas. In the interviews and other
discussions, ABC asked about costs of the Yucca Mountain tunnel, the rail
line within the tunnel, production (and number) of documents created since
program inception, and other related matters. They also spoke with
Governnor Miller of Nevada and several individuals who are opponents of the
program. ABC staff advised DOE public affairs officials that they hope to
be given about three minutes for their report -- a half-minute or so longer
than usual for "It?s Your Money" reports.
