Bill,

I  congratulate that you dare to call things by their names! It astonishes
me, that there are dozens of mails sent on a matter, which might be solved
by a telephone call - as you pointed out. I again comment that speculations
are not the basis for scientific work. Whatever this person has done or not
done, whether he was right or not, the comments of his non-membership in
some organisations were clearly intended to discredit this person and this
cannot be changed now by twisting words. As our Canadian collegue pointed
out, this would discredit any non-US collegues, who are not members in US
organisations or of organisations in their respective countries. Obviously
the person in question must have had some qualification, otherwise he would
not have got the job - or does US legislation really allow that unqualified
persons are responsible for radiation protection?
