Re: RSO vs. MD Flap -Reply

True, and it is unfortunate that a M.D. can be held to such a high esteem
that he disregards the opinions of other professionals in the field. I have
been fortunate enough to have worked with reasonable M.D.s in the past
who have valued my input into radiation safety matters. If the question
here concerned management disregarding the RSO's opinion to the point
where they were "cutting him out of the loop", then perhaps in that given
environment, the RSO saw no other way of solving the situation and
went to the media. An unfortunate situation and a choice that challenges
the confidence the public has in that institution.

My opinion only and other standard disclaimers....Charles Blue

Howdy, Radsafers -

Well you can't say that this "turmoil" hasn't been interesting. We
"radsafety types" are generally honestly concerned about such
situations
as have been described where the "whistle blower" RSO has run afoul
of
the treating physicians. But, why should we bee surprised by these
developments. No
turf is so closely, and jealously guarded than the physician-patient
therapeutic relationship. Our professional medical friends have
steadfastly insisted on retaining their sole responsibility in respect to
treating of disease, and this is not about to change.
