from Nexstar Pharmaceuticals:
The EH&S Department currently has an opening for a Safety Technician I.
This position is a salary grade 6, with a range of $24,209 - $31,350 -
$38492.   Generally new employees are started in the lower half of the
range, with salary depending on qualifications.

Requisite Skills:
Employees filling this position would generally have the following
requisite skills:

   The ability to perform routine work with general instruction, new or
   difficult assignments require detail instruction;
   Written and oral communication skills;
   The ability to perform mathematical calculations; and
   Basic computer skills,  Lotus Notes, Word and Excel experience
   preferred.

Education
Employees filling this position would usually have a B.Sc. degree in a
scientific field plus 0-12 months relevant experience or the equivalent
education and/or experience.   Experience in  safety or a safety sensitive
position such as laboratory science or chemical manufacturing preferred.

Duties for the position.
Employees filling this position are responsible for the following duties.

   Assist in the maintenance of the computerized chemical inventory
   tracking system to ensure accurate data is available;
   Maintains material safety data sheet library;
   Performs periodic observations and inspections for the purpose of
   identifying potential hazards, unsafe work practices, and areas of
   non-compliance with NeXstar and regulatory policy requirements;
   Assists with EH&S audits, industrial hygiene sampling efforts, EH&S
   training, and emergency exercises;
   Performs collection and limited processing of hazardous and low-level
   radioactive wastes;
   Assists with instrument calibrations, laboratory surveys, and fume hood
   surveys, as requested;
   Assists in the administration of NeXstar's Radiological Monitoring and
   Dosimetry Program

In addition, potential candidates must have the ability and wiliness to
perform the following:

   Work involving the handling of chemical, biological, and radiological
   substances;
   Wear respiratory protection and other personal protective equipment;
   Respond to normal and after-hours emergencies involving potentially
   hazardous chemical, biological, and radiological substances;
   Move 55 gallons drums weighing approximately 500 pounds using mechanical
   assistance; and
   Address issues of non-conformance with NeXstar EH&S requirements using
   tact and discretion.
