Positive radiation benefit media coverage
There has been much positive media coverage of radiation treatments
for breast cancer, and how it has increased the survival rates for
women. These are a few excerpts of an article published in Reuters
News Service today:
> BOSTON (Reuter) - Radiation therapy, which fell out of favor years
> ago as a treatment for breast cancer, has been found to dramatically
> reduce the risk of death when combined with conventional
> chemotherapy, two major studies have found.
In addition to the article, the positive aspects are published in the
New England Journal of Medicine, and the following highlights the two
studies conducted in Denmark and Canada:
> "These are substantial survival advantages," said Dr. Samuel Hellman
> of the University of Chicago in an editorial in Thursday's New
> England Journal of Medicine, where the studies were published.
This type of information should be expounded upon to gain as much
exposure (no pun intended) by the health physics and medical physics
community, such as the following conclusion:
> Ragaz and his team said the benefits of radiation treatments may
> become more obvious as time passes and the number of breast cancer
> survivors lessens.
Let's make some positive gains with "positive" news, for a change.
