Re: Greenpeace halts U.S. coal shipment to Ontario

7 out of 22 CANDU reactors in Canada (20 in Ontario, 1 in Quebec, one in
New Brunswick) were shut down after an independant consultant declares
that the reactors were, on a safety level "barely acceptable or
acceptable" It is my understanding that improper maintenance and
"improvisation" on some procedures are the main reason. There is no
exact decision as when the maintenance work (estimated to billion of CAN
$) will be performed.

That should show the public that CANDU needs rigorous maintenance and
procedures like any other piece of high tech equipment and more then
that, Nuclear Energy can shut itself down if it needs to ! (but you know
instead what was the immediate reaction from the public...)

Sandy et al,

7 CANDU reactors shut down?

How did that happen? Planned or unplanned?
