Re: Individual Dose Monitoring Response

The report must be sent for all workers that are "officially"
monitored for dose, meaning that the facility has made the conscious
decision that the individual "will more likely than not" exceed 10%
of the annual regulatory limits, which is 500 mrem TEDE. The
regulations do not disallow the use of electronic dosimetry for
monitoring the individual. Electroninc dosimetry need not meet NVLAP
requirements, although many nuclear utilities have pursued
accreditation through NVLAP (voluntary at this point), primarily in
Category IV only (Cs-137, Protection Range). Some utilities still
process monthly (as does my former utility) but the majority are
quarterly and there are a few that are now processing semi-annully.
The frequency of processing has to fit the dose patterns, and, the
utilities (or other facility) need to ensure that the doses assigned
are correlated to the secondary dosimetry devices.
