Greenhouse Gases -Reply
Tad,
Greenhouse gases result from combustion of carbon and oxygen, and as such,
nuclear power plants DO NOT contribute to greenhouse gass emission. Some
sources consider the entire fuel cycle starting from mining the ore up through
using it in a reactor. This method then takes into account the gas or diesel
fuel used in the tractors to mine the ore, as well as the electricity used at
the nuclear fuel fabrication facility(assuming it is from a coal-fired plant).
However, the utilization of nuclear fuel to generate electricity in a reactor
doesn't emit any greenhouse gases. I hope this answers your question. If not,
let me know.
