JOB OPENING #2 - Principal (Supervising) HP Technician

UCLA Radiation Safety has another opening for a  Principal (Supervising) HP
Tech.  Here's the official info:

PRINCIPAL EH&S TECHNICIAN (JOB #7231)
SALARY RANGE: $3,040 - $3,663 per month
CLOSING DATE:  11/4/97

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Duties to be performed on the job: Under the direction of staff health
physicist, perform routine duties and supplemental assignments in
compliance with UCLA license and state and federal radiation control
regulations.  Collect and dispose of low-level radioactive waste.
Maintain, operate and calibrate survey instrumentation, whole body and
liquid scintillation counters.  Survey laboratories that use radioactive
materials and radiation producing machines as assigned.  Perform whole body
counting, and urine and thyroid bioassays.  Monitor isotope packages and
enter inventory records in the database.  Train staff technicians and users
of irradiators and radioisotopes.  Act as a working supervisor along with
another Principal Technician for five Senior Technicians.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES ESSENTIAL TO PERFORM THE JOB:
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills to effectively
communicate UCLA radiation safety policies to radiation workers and write
technical documents and procedures.  Ability to lift 50 lbs. And handle
drums weighing up to 300 lbs.  Education and experience equivalent to B.S.
degree in a closely related field and two years of relevant radiation
safety experience in an academic/medical environment.  Possess valid
California Driver's license.  Position is subject to the California DMV's
Pull Notice System and an offer of employment is contingent upon proof of
satisfactory driving record.  Working knowledge of IBM or IBM compatible
computer systems and software preferred.
