Re: Hood Face Velocity

USNRC Reg. Guide 10.8, Guide for the Prepatration of Applications for
Medical Use Programs, Appendix U, states:

"It {fume hood} should be directly vented to the outside air. The face
velocity should be approximately 100 linear feet per minute with the sash
at its normal location."

Our (agreement state) Health Division applies this guidance to non-medical
programs as well.

According to our EH&S Industrial Hygienist, CAL/OSHA Title 8 Section
5154 requires that face velocity of the air entering a fume hood is at
least 100 linear feet per minute.
