RE: Scarborough, Tenn

David,

Scarborough is definitely a section of Oak Ridge as Mrs. Poston-Brown
indicated. We (she is my sister) lived in Oak Ridge from 1964 until 1977.
During that time, the Scarborough area was a predominately
African-American section of town consisting of mostly government subsidized
housing. I don't know if this has changed in the past 20 years. An
earlier post pointing the finger at poverty, diet, and other factors could
be headed in the right direction. I am not completely sure how close
Scarborough is to Y-12 (it has been a while since I've been in the area),
but Scarborough is close to the middle of town on what one could considered
the "lab" side of the valley. By being located on the "lab" side of the
valley, Scarborough would be closer (significantly, I doubt) to Y-12 than
most housing in the area (but I may be wrong). Some more recent
developments may be closer, but they didn't exist in 1977. Any help from
you Oak Ridgers out there?

These are my thoughts and opinions only.

Happy Holidays to all,
Jay

Mike,

Scarborough is a section of Oak Ridge. The
facility in Question is Y-12.
DOE is currently holding community meetings
with the residents and conducting air sampling
both in the community and at various release
points from Y-12.
