Arctic reindeer consuming tundra lichen, ingest material that may have been
deposited in/on surface lichens over many years, (I believe rootless
lichens grow very slowly, are quite mineral starved,  and get much of their
nutrition from air deposition;  so the reindeer ate both old fallout Cs-137
as well as newer Chornobyl Cs-134/137, especially in regions under the
Chornobyl plume following wet deposition).
