RISK-BASED PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT AND DECISION MAKING

April 5-8, 1998 - Pasco, Washington
The 1998 Environmental Sciences Division Topical Meeting on Risk-Based
Performance Assessment and Decision Making will address several
important issues related to the use of performance and risk assessments
in making decisions regarding nuclear facility safety, waste management
and environmental restoration. A focus of the topical meeting will be
on the methods used for conducting performance and risk assessments and
how those assessments can be used to make better decisions. Of
particular interest is the interaction of the risk practitioners and the
decision makers who utilize the results of performance and risk
assessments. Environmental, safety and health risks as well as
programmatic and policy risks will be addressed. The topical meeting
will feature a plenary session, invited speakers, case studies, and
contributed papers of interest to scientists, engineers, decision
makers, regulators, and the general public.

interact with and ask questions about the tools and techniques

B-Reactor Tour (included in cost of registration) -- 105-B Reactor (built
as part of the Manhattan Project in 1943 and now a National Historical
Site) was the first Hanford plutonium production reactor. It made the
plutonium that went into the Trinity test device and the atomic weapon
that was dropped on Nagasaki.
