Rad Health Handbook

The current title : Handbook of Health Physics and Radiological Health.

In answer to the questions/comments below......]
There were various versions (and one supplement) prior to the 1992
'Revised Edition'. The 1992 ed was the first real complete rewrite, but
even with that little was removed (although everyone has his own favorite
table/graph that seemed to go away). Dr. Shleien has tried to put them
back in for those folks who spoke up.

The 1998 ed (designated the Third Ed since it constitutes the third
complete review and rewrite) has substantial new material, very little
removed, mostly the same chapter titles, but a lot moved around or updated
with virtually every table changed in some way.

Be aware: since I am one of the contributors there is a slight bias in my
views on this topic. However, having had this interesting experience
(sort of like having root canals) I can attest that the effort put forth
by Dr. Shleien to self-publish the previous edition and to keep this
reference alive was truly stupendous. I just had no appreciation for the
detail and coordination necessary to publish a reference like this. His
effort has been greatly unrecognized.

P.S. One of my files is collecting RADSAFE notes relating to questions
like "...where can I find....?" if it is appropriate for the Handbook.
Despite the resources of the Internet I find a book on the shelf is still
my first resource of choice. ********

The most recent HPHandbook I have is copyrighted 1989, from Scinta,
Inc. When I purchased it, I also purchased "Supplement 1 (1986) to the
HP&RH Handbook". This also was published by Scinta, and had a ton of info
in it.
Is there an update to "Supplement 1", or has it been incorporated into
the 3rd Edition of the HPHandbook?

Steven,
Scinta published a revised edition to the "Old" Rad Health Handbook
and Supplement 1, in 1992. It was a large black hardcover text, and I
thought it was an excellent resource. I have contacted the new publisher,
Williams & Wilkins, to ask how different the new handbook is. I have a
feeling the book has not changed much and is just being published by a new
publisher. We'll see.
