Re: Texas Radiographers License
I tend to think "radiographers" as persons who operate "radiographic
exposure devices" (i.e., any instrument containing a sealed source
that is used to make a radiograph (e.g., camera). No licensee or
registrant shall permit any individual to act as a radiographer until
they have submitted documentation which demonstrates adequate
training/experience and have passed a State-administered exam. Once
done, the individual is issued a radiographer's identification card.
In Texas, medical treatment facilities wishing to conduct diagnostic
nuclear medicine, submit applications to the state. Applications
include the names/credentials of the physicians the MTF requests to
be authorized to order/administer diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals
under the auspices of the MTF's RML. Physicians will adequate
training/experience will have their names added to the MTF's license.
In Texas, Technologists (Nuclear Medicine, Therapy, X-Ray) are
certified (for clinical competence) by the Medical Radiological
Technolgists Certification Program (512-834-6617). In addition to
the requirement for Technologists to be certified an an MRT, in order
to work an a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, each MTF issued a
radioactive material license must commit to using Technologists who
have successfully completed an adequate amount of training/experience
in the safe handling of radioactive material.

Subject: Texas Radiographers License
1. Are medical diagnostic radiographers required to have a license or
registration in the State of Texas?
2. Are radiographers allowed to perform their duties under the employing
physician's or practice license without an individual license?
