SONOPCO stands for Southern Nuclear Operating Company, which is a subsidiary of Southern Company. Southern Company is the mother company of Alabama Power and Georgia Power, which each have nuclear plants. Southern Nuclear was formed to manage the Southern Company nuclear plants Farley, Vogtle and Hatch.
