Did anyone other than me see the "dead horse" that we're beating?

Hear, hear, Joyce. I think we've all had a great deal of both fun and
intellectual stimulation from this. My few references to nuclear music,
BTW, are all from what is known as the "contemporary classical" or "new
music" repertory. The whole issue of how nuclear things affects society as
a whole is clearly extremely important to all of us -- why do you think
it's so difficulat to convince people that (eg) eating irradiated
vegetables is NOT going to make them "glow in the dark".

There is an excellent book entitled "Nuclear Fear" by a historian of
science (Weat, I think) that goes into this in a most profound manner.
Highly recommended!!

A careful study of the music, lyrics and (in the case of "serious" music,
the program notes) of compositions with a "nuclear" theme could well form a
valuable addition to this work. I will be passing this thread on to a
musicologist who may want to explore it further (or at least have a grad
student look into it).

This has been a tremendous thread! Thank you all. The information we have
gathered should most certainly be posted on the Web with full
bio-bibliographical details and relevant hyperlinks. It should not be
forgotten. Any takers???
