extensive changes to 10CFR20 effective 8/24/98

No, this is NOT a joke.

The NRC published changes to 10CFR20 in the Federal Register on 7/23/98, for
implementation on 8/24/98. These include:

The monitoring threshold for minors is raised to 100 mrem/yr.

The monitoring threshold for declared pregnant workers is raised to 100
mrem/term.

Pregancy declarations shall be made to the licensee instead of the employer.

Reporting requirements for excessive dose rate and contamination on packages
received are changed from the regional office to the Operations Center.

Incident reports under 20.2202 must now be made to the Operations Center by
phone, not by the Emergency Notification System.

There are numerous other minor changes, as well as conforming changes in the
10CFR32,35, 36, and 39.

While these are not major substantive changes, they will require extensive
procedure changes, training changes, and other implementation efforts for
many
licensees.

The opinions expressed are strictly mine.
It's not about dose, it's about trust.
