Jim,

The logic is pretty simple:

5 rem= 0.05 Gy= 0.05 J/kg

0.05 (J/kg) x 70 (kg)= 3.5 J= 3.5 watt-sec

Thus, the 5 rem whole body dose is the energy equivalent of the energy input to a 4
watt bulb in a little less than a sec.
