The I-131 Bioassay Issue
Thanks to all that responded on this subject. Brief sumary for those in-
terested. Since the NRC has apparently backed off of a prescriptive
"Thou shalt..." approach and recinded the requirement, the default
REQUIREMENT is in part 20 to evaluate the intake of those likely to receive
10% of an ALI. That would be 5 uCi for I-131. You can assert your people
are unlikely to receive that using an analytical argument supported by
past bioassay data or do limited bioassay of the most highly exposed ro
or both. The guidance in the NUREG seems a lot more restrictive [if that
can be said about guidance, of course if you BUY IT, that is commit to it in
your application then it is restrictive.]
