Baltimore-Washington Chapter 40th Anniversary Meeting
Meeting of the
Baltimore-Washington Chapter of the HPS
The second meeting of the season of the Baltimore-Washington Chapter of the
Health Physics Society once again will be at the Uniformed Services University
of the Health Sciences.
Our featured speaker will be the Baltimore-Washington Chapter's own Ray
Johnson, President-elect of the Health Physics Society. The title of his talk
is "Positioning the Society for Success in the 21st Century." As in sports,
our Society's future success will depend on good preparation and putting our
resources to work in the right place at the right time. The HPS already has
underway numerous initiatives that do just that, such as strategic and fiscal
planning, public and government relations, Board of Directors reorganization,
expanded Secretariat services, new membership classifications, new sections,
and new liaisons with other professional societies.
Mr. Johnson is a certified health physicist and a professional engineer. He
has been a plenary member of the HPS since 1966 and has been treasurer,
secretary, and a director at the national level. Of course, he has also been a
President of our Chapter. He served twenty-eight years as a commissioned
officer of the Public Health Service before retiring with the rank of captain.
His publications are numbered well over two hundred. He is a most accomplished
fellow.
This meeting is also the special occasion of the Baltimore-Washington
Chapter's 40th anniversary as the first chartered chapter of the Health
Physics Society. All chapter charter members will be our honored guests at
this meeting. (That means "free" to our charter members in attendance!) We
plan special announcements and expect other special guests in attendance at
the meeting, such as HPS President Keith Dinger.
