Re: Old Device containing Radioactive Material
Dan, thank you for the information. I talked with Rich Anderson at Ohio State and he is looking for the info on the sources/devices they disposed of in 1997. I will let you know if he comes up with anything..
Thank again;

Here is another message about a similar event, as described by Tom Hill (see message below) regarding a Kel-Ray Projector-

"We have three old sealed sources in devices with little or no identifying information regarding nuclide, activity, and/or manufacturer. If anyone in RadSafe-land can help us to learn anything about these sources, we wouldgreatly appreciate your assistance. Please send any responses to:

Source #1:
Kel-Ray Projector, Model CB-130, no date, no nuclide or activity information contained on the source label plaque. Manufactured by the M.W. KellogCompany. Does anyone know if these people are still in business and how we can contact them?"

Maybe he eventually found out what he needed to know. Perhaps it is worth an e-mail or phone call?

RADSAFE Group:
I am looking for information on an old abandon device, apparently an installed gauge. Its a Kel-Ray Projector Model CB. The device was manufactured by the M. W. Kellogg Company who had offices on Third Ave in New York City and was distributed by Metal & Thermit Corporation, New York 17, N. Y. NY DOL tells me that the radioactive material license for M. W. Kellogg was terminated in 1971.
Does anyone have any idea as to the activity and the isotope the device was designed for? The activity and the isotope areas on the source tag are blank.
The following is directly form the source tag:
The Model _______ Kel-Ray Projector is designed for use solely with Radioisotope encapsulated by or for the M. W. Kellogg Company. The maximum Activity of _______ for which it is designed is ______ millicuries as measured by the M. W. Kellogg Company method NPD______. Instructions for use of other radioisotopes and operation of the projector are issued by the M. W. Kellogg Company and are available from Metal & Thermit Corporation. Shipment of this projector containing encapsulated radioisotope source must be in accordance with the shipping regulations pertaining to the carrier involved.
Please send responses directly to me at: Thill@mail.dnr.state.ga.us.
