L.I. Congressman Fights Nuke Plant - (SMITHTOWN) -- 
Congressman Michael Forbes of Long Island says he wants a 
nuclear power plant in nearby Connecticut closed. The Millstone 
Three plant, just across Long Island Sound from Forbes' Suffolk 
County Congressional District, has had five shut-downs over the 
last year... and last week released 800 gallons of reactor coolant 
into the Sound.

Waste Site Would Be Among Largest - (WAKE COUNTY) -- 
Carolina Power and Light says it wants to build what could become 
the nation's largest storage site for used nuclear fuel rods. The 
utility is asking the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission for 
permission to open two new storage pools at the Sharon Harris 
nuclear power plant in Wake County. Notice of the request will 
appear in the federal register within the next few days... the public 
will have 30-days to make their opinions known. to the. C-P- and L 
has denied that people face any greater risks by doubling the 
amount of storage pools.
