At Los Alamos, we have developed a new course entitled "Emergency Responder
Rad Training. The DOE has promised to place this on the server at DOE-HQ
(soon?) If you would like a copy, let me know.

10CFR835 and the draft IGs indicate that the training should be appropriate
rather than one-size-fits-all. Furthermore, rad emergencies are covered by
a different section: 10CFR1302 vs 10CFR835.901. Further: I have spoken to
several experts who work at both the Los Alamos Plutonium Facility and the
Fire Dept; they agree that Fire Dept "turnout" is better protection than
Plutonium Facility antiC clothing.

We do not require the Fire Dept to suit up for rad training. We assume they
know how to handle this with respect to hazardous chemicals; the techniques
are the same.
